The importance of using a professional Perth photographer

Posted in General Photography    |    Comments Off

Using a professional Perth Photographer compared to just someone “from the family” as many couples seem to prefer due to budget constraints is certainly the best way to go. Why? Professionals have an eye for the angles and shots they will take and they most of all have experience in what they’re doing. They will know when to take the shots, how many of them to take and will also tell people to take certain stances when situations demand it for even more spectacular shots.

A newbie doesn’t know all of these details and will certainly take some average photos. And because it’s a wedding involved choosing a newbie over a professional may ruin one of the most beautiful events in the couple’s life. No one will want to save one or two hundred dollars more and in return get shots which won’t surprise the most vital moments of their union.

Getting referrals

First of all getting a referral is one of the best ways for being let in on a Perth Photographer. Asking around coworkers, friends, family is a good way of finding out about people in the wedding photography business who might be well suited for the upcoming event. These recommendations are the first ones people can use in order to have a list of the potential photographers to hire. Questions to ask those who recommended some names is if they were content with the services they got and if the photos taken were also on par with the expectations.

Choosing a style

Choosing a style is mandatory when looking for a portrait Perth Photographer. Depending on the area where the person is living they will be able to look in the portfolio of many photographers and make sure they will choose the one who will have the most adequate and closest style to the type of shots they’re looking for. Some of these styles number traditional, photojournalism, magazine style, fashion style and each of them have a top of the line professional behind them.

Natural setting versus studio

Getting married and having the wedding in a natural space will of course account for pictures that are more vivid, livelier and will impress visually more than those taken in a studio. Pictures taken in a studio are always subject to the recommendations of the portrait Perth Photographer when it comes to the stance people will have to take.

This doesn’t actually fit the idea of a wedding where people are cheering, moving and dancing freely and should thus be captured this way. Capturing that level of motion and human emotions is certainly a greater way of having a wedding remembered. Nevertheless, no one is saying that studio photos are to be discarded, as they also play an artistic role in having the couple immortalised in a more formal manner.

Conclusion

Choosing a portrait Perth Photographer is certainly one of the most important tasks for anyone who wants to get married as at stake lies immortalising some of the most wonderful moments in their lives. Choosing a photographer should be backed up by a lot of research, reviewing of the photographer’s portfolio and also getting in touch with former clients and inquiring about their level of satisfaction. If these steps are all followed anyone will be able to find the best Perth wedding photographer to account for the best portrait shots of their wedding ceremony!

Perth Photographers

If you are currently in the need for a professional photographer, you will be extremely pleased to know that there are many different Perth photographers available that you’ll be able to choose from. Sometimes it can be a struggle trying to find the right type of photographer for your specific needs. If this is the case, you will find the information provided here extremely pleasing because you may learn some important facts you didn’t know about choosing the right type of photographer for your specific situation.

One of the biggest struggles people have when choosing any type of professional service for their event or special occasion, is that they aren’t quite sure what makes one professional in a specific industry different than another. It will be important to understand that although there are many different Perth photographers available, each photographer will provide something a little different when it comes to the specific type of photography they use or some of the additional services they may provide.

With that being said, there are some things you may want to consider before choosing a professional photographer to handle your needs.

Why choose Professional Perth Photographers

When you’ve made a decision to choose a photographer to handle all of your photography needs regardless of the event or occasion, you will not want to be faced with having problems or issues when it comes to film development, or the type of images that are being provided. Choosing a professional will work to your advantage in many areas when it comes to the finished product.

They understand how important your photographs will be, and because of this they will use all of their skill and knowledge to ensure that your finished product is exactly what you have anticipated. If you live in or around the Western Australia area, you will more than likely want to choose a photography service that is close to you because this will allow you to get to know who your photographer is, and all the services they provide.

Does it Matter How Long They’ve Been in Business

When choosing a photography service, it will be extremely important to find out just how long they’ve been in business. Because there are a wide variety of services available, you will want to perform a little research which will provide you with beneficial information in regards to the services you decide to choose.

Just as it is important to have your vehicle work done by a professional mechanic, you will want professionals handling your photographs especially if you are hiring their services for a wedding, special event, special occasion, or any type of situation where your images will be shared with others on a continual basis.

You will discover that many professional photography services will provide you with information in regards to how long they’ve been in business, but more importantly – they will also provide you with their photography credentials. This will provide you with insight into their professionalism as well as their certifications and AIPP membership.

How to Choose a Photography Package

One of the important items you’ll find out very quickly will be the fact that many different photography services provide a variety of different photo packages. These photo packages are designed to complement the services they provide. For instance, wedding photography is extremely popular and with that comes the type of photography that is used, wedding albums, postcards, photo frames, posters, prints on canvas, or CD/DVD images.

The specific package you choose will be determined by your specific needs in regards to the photographs you’re having taken. In some cases, you will not be required to spend any additional funds on certain types of packages; however, in other cases some of these packages will only complement what you’ve already purchased which will make your photography session that much more valuable.

When choosing between many Perth photographers, you will discover one thing that is very consistent and that is their professionalism as well as a majority of the products and services they provide. With that in mind, you will still need to choose a professional photographer that can provide you with the type of photographs you require, as well as any additional services that will make your photography experience something you can remember well into the future.  Cooper Studio is an AIPP accredited studio.

Family Portrait Photos

Children

Child portrait photographs are extremely popular for grandparents, parents, and family members. These are the type of pictures that a person loves to carry in their wallet and have over the mantle on their fireplace. A Perth portrait photographer is exceptionally talented at getting those perfect shots of your children so you can remember that special moment for a lifetime.

Environmental

Environmental portraits are extremely unique because it will capture someone in their natural setting. Whether it’s your children, yourself, or someone you would like to capture in their natural setting, environmental portraits are the type of photographs you want.

Sporting

Sporting portrait photographs are probably best known for catching someone with all their sporting gear on and getting that perfect shot. It doesn’t matter where it is as long as you have a portrait photographer willing to take a few sporting pictures. This can be before or after a game or event so keep these types of portraits in mind.

Formal

This is where the portrait photograph has been planned. You and your family know it’s time to go out and have your portrait photographs taken, so everyone gets dressed up in the type of clothing that is required for the shot. These types of shots are normally discussed between the person in charge and the photographer.

Posed

This type of portrait photography basically means that the person getting their photo taken will follow the lead from the photographer to get certain shots. Moving, smiling, or turning a certain way will all be a part of posing for shots.

Candid

These are basically casual shots of you as you are performing certain tasks like being at a wedding or function and you want a photographer to create all natural portraits. It’s like, you know your picture is being taken, you just don’t know when.

Couples

This is when your Perth portrait photographer has to shoot portraits that say something about the two people in the picture without words. Love, relationship, and attraction are only a few interpretations a person will get when looking at a portrait done properly with couples.

You’ll be happy to know that there are many different services available that will provide a professional photographer that can handle all of your family photo needs. You definitely want to select a professional that has the experience, skill, and knowledge to take the type of photographs that will benefit you the most. When selecting a family photographer there are some things you may want to consider.

Find the best family portrait photographer

Searching online in your local area will typically allow you to find local talent that may provide the services you need. If you do find a service online you will definitely want to look at their family pictures portfolio to check out the different styles and picture quality they provide. What you’ll find when looking through online services is that you really won’t be able to tell how long that company has been in business. So you’ll want to jot down some information you’ve found on their website as well as their phone number so you can call them to get more detail in regards to their service.

portrait photographer perthWhen contacting a family photographer you want to ask how long they’ve been in business. This is always a good question because typically you want a company that has been in service for quite some time so they have learned to be comfortable working around adults, children, and animals if they’re part of the family. The other thing is even though they may not have been in business for a long period of time they still might be able to provide an excellent service so by asking the question it may provide more information that will be beneficial to you.

You’ll also want to find out where exactly they provide their service, whether it’s in their studio or in your home this is very important because it will allow you to make decisions based on what they can or cannot do. The cost of their service is also important as well as the packages they provide for each of their clients. Selecting a professional family photographer will benefit you and your family for years to come.

Cooper Studio has been offering family and portrait photography in Perth for many years, and their Fremantle based studio can cater for your family, or you can have your shoot outside – somewhere more natural and relevant to you.

Nude Photography: A case study from our Perth Portrait Studio

Posted in Nude Photography    |    1 Comments

Recently, we had a beautiful young woman come and visit us at the Cooper Studio. She was looking for a Perth nudes photographer and she had seen our studio from the road and had also visited our website, but wanted to come in and meet us face to face before booking a shoot, because she was a bit nervous.

We’ll call her Adele (not her real name). She wanted tasteful nude photography and some wall art from the shoot as a gift for her husband on their wedding anniversary. Now, we do something like this just about every week, and a lot of our clients are very relaxed about it, but for Adele it was quite a big step.

She is quite demure and very private by nature and she had never posed for individual portraits before, let alone taking her clothes off in front of a photographer! I think she was also little unsure about her body and a bit unconvinced about her beauty. So I think it was great that she was prepared to overcome her fears to create something beautiful that she really wanted deep down.

After showing Adele around the studio I took her into our theatre and went through a portfolio of nude and beauty photos with her. At Cooper Studio we try to tailor each shoot to our client’s wishes, so there were a number of different styles to choose from:

  • Fashion style images are often shot on a white or “New York Gray” photographic background.
  • Classical style photos: Usually nude or semi-nude portraits on a black background. These can be quite contrasty, using light and shade to selectively hide and reveal parts of the body.
  • “Rembrandt” style: This is one of our specialties at Cooper Studio. We use a mottled cloth backdrop, warm, dramatic lighting and often some antique furniture.

This is an example of a fashion style nude photo:

And here’s an example of a classical nude:

And here is example of a “Rembrandt” style nude:

Adele really liked the Rembrandt style images, especially the ones where we used a selective focus technique to render much of the body out of focus. In this technique we usually focus on the eyes and lips, giving the portraits a dreamy and ephemeral quality. Here’s a photo she particularly liked, that became the basis of the shoot we did for her:

Adele was fairly certain she didn’t want to show her whole body in the portraits and we planned on going for semi-nude photos with some lingerie shots, to give her variety to choose from.

Come the shoot day we had the studio set up for some basic beauty shots – knowing that Adele had never had a nude shoot before, we thought we would work our way into it. Adele came simply dressed and brought along a simple white lingerie set to wear during parts of the shoot. (It’s best not to wear tight fitting clothing or lingerie for long before a shoot, as the elastic and straps leave marks on the skin).

As it turns out, we skipped the clothed portrait photos because Adele wanted to start with the lingerie shots straight away. We worked our way through a number of standing and seated poses, and it wasn’t long before she was comfortable enough for us to do some shadowy shots while she was dressed in knickers only. As we usually do with nude and beauty shoots, we spent about an hour working our way through different lighting, backdrops and poses.

It was a great shoot and I shot a little bit too much! It usually takes about 25 minutes to edit and choose my favorite photos from a shoot, but with Adele it took closer to 45 minutes! While I was doing this, Adele got dressed, packed away her things and chatted with our staff in the lounge room, over a cup of tea and some chocolates.

Then it was into the theatre to view her photos on our big screen. We started off with a slideshow and then spent a while looking at each photo. Adele loved about two dozen photos from the shoot, and from these we chose three to use as a wall collection for her bedroom. We designed a Caravaggio Acrylic which will be a stunning piece of art, and a very personal surprise for her husband on their wedding anniversary!
